Next comes the Half!
After completing or rather NOT-completing their last 10km Intermediate program. Miles and his buddies have now decided that’s a thing of the past. Time to move on and look ahead.
With the 21km Intermediate-1 training program, they now have a 12-weeks plan, which is 50% more than the previous 8-weeks 10km program.
Even though there’s runway for a gradual increase to the long run distances, it still looks daunting to the Trio.

They decided on the Intermediate-1 (Endurance) program over the Intermediate-2 (Speed) program.
So although there will be no tempo or speedwork in this program, there will be some runs they are expected to run “fast” or near race pace.
Also, since the program was a translation from miles to km, the distances were a bit weird. So the trio decided to round up (or down) where appropriate.
No more 4.8km (3 miles) run, they are now 5km runs. And so on for the rest of the distances. Makes it easier to remember….. perhaps.
The trio decided to take a week break to recover from their ‘broken’ bodies and spirit. So just easy 5-7km runs during that week.

Straight into Week 1, Miles already missed the Monday cross training session.
“Need some getting used to” mumble Miles as he consoled himself that it’s ok to miss one or two sessions along the way. Somehow, the fact that it’s a cross-training session helped ease the guilt.
And as the days slipped by, Miles was able to put all the bad experience to the back of his head, and continued with the new program. But alas, perhaps of the lingering self-doubts that had unexpectedly crept in, Miles became careless and absent minded.
So much for rounding up (or down) the run distance thinking it will be easier to remember….. Miles still absentmindedly ran 6.4km instead of 6.5km on both Wed & Sun.
Nevertheless, it was still a good week for Miles and his buddies.
Week 1 came and went, 5 easy runs of between 5 – 6.4km. Nothing spectacular, nothing excessive, nothing difficult. Consistency at easy HR to build the base.
With the 5km and 10km training program, Miles and his buddies were taking baby steps towards their ultimate goal.
As of this week…. they will be taking half steps… towards their intermediate Half-marathon goal.
