Hobble: An Unexpected Journey!

Note: It’s been a while since we last posted on “Journey to Fitness”, we had a good reason for that…

Barely into the third week of the customized 21km training program, Miles started to feel a scratchy feeling in his throat. And before long, brother fever came knocking on the door as well.

With a cough and a sneeze….. the whole training program got blown down the drain.

“…must be all the durians I’ve been eating the past week” muttered Miles under his breath,

Another week, another set of reasons, read as “excuses”, for not having to run.

Maybe at the back of his mind, Miles really didn’t want to run. With the pain in his knee a couple of weeks ago, and then the weather, and now this…..

Unexpectedly, the fever lasted longer than Miles had wanted. One week turned into two weeks, and after two consultations with the GP, Miles finally recovered.

The body felt weak after two weeks of no exercise. From an optimistic point of view , it was a good opportunity to let the body rest….. or perhaps, was it the body who “demanded” the opportunity to have a rest?

“How will I ever get to run a marathon at this rate?” wondered Miles. Looks like I might have to start from base zero all over again.

And just as he has recovered from his illness, work forced Miles to travel for the following two weeks.

“Ok, traveling isn’t so bad, I should be able to put in some time at the gym to run during the travel” Miles tried to console himself.

But the work week turned out to be another nightmare, as Miles found himself working late into the night every night.

The body, already weak after the illness, started to get weaker from all the late nights.

It’s almost like the universe was working against him.

What an unexpected journey the last four weeks had been…. thought Miles as he hobbled like a damaged old man.
