The 10km finale week!

7 weeks seem to pass very quickly. Miles and his buddies have finally arrived at THE week, where they will attempt their first 10km in 6 years.

Miles started the week as the previous few weeks, calm and unperturbed. Just going about his usual routine that has occupied his mind and schedule for the past 7 weeks.

No anticipation for the final 10km trial run in the coming week.

Macro Week #07 (10km Novice)

Micro Week #08, Session 1

Plan: Run 4.8 km

Actual: Run 4.81 km (39 mins)

Keeping a consistent pace throughout and maintaining an average HR of 141, Miles completed his first session with ease. This Tuesday run has become a routine for Miles.

Micro Week #08, Session 2

Plan: Cross Training 30 mins

Actual: Brisk Walk 30:15 mins (2.95 km)

The mid-week cross training has also been reduced to 30mins. The tapering has begun…

With ease, Miles muddled through the mid-week walk. More relaxed than the previous weeks.

Somehow, the idea of Miles doing his first 10km in 6 years in the coming weekend has not sunk into his head yet. Everything still feels routine, no pressure.

Micro Week #06, Session 3

Plan: Run 3.2 km

Actual: Run 3.2 km (25:46 mins)

The final run before the 10km “Race”. Again, the volume has been reduced, and it was just a mere 3.2km run to end the week comfortably.

Looking at his pace for the past few weeks, Miles couldn’t help but think if running faster can save him time for longer runs.

They have been toying with the idea of training for a faster 10km as their phase 2 training as opposed to going straight to a Half Marathon training program. As the days passes, Miles was more convinced that they should work on their speed next. Otherwise, it will be excruciating for them to run their long runs at the current easy pace.

But this will also mean that they will be jumping from 3 runs + 2 cross training a week to 5 runs + 1 cross training per week, with one of the runs being speedwork.

That’s quite a drastic jump! Miles would have to discuss this with his buddies Wade and Gallop over the weekend.

….. (to be continued)
