Are the Fellows onboard the Ship?

“Well, I have a plan! A Marathon plan!” laughed Miles “I remember following Runner’s World’s Hal Higdon’s running plans when we were actively participating in races. He had plans from 5km to Marathon, from Novice, Intermediate to Advance training plans.”

“Let’s do it this way “… continued Miles “Let’s get back to basics and do it gradually. I suggest we train for 10km, followed by a 21km before we embark on the training plan for the 42km. What say you!!! Should we commit to this plan?”

“You jump… I jump!!!” Wade jumped in excitedly, always the supporting one in the group.

There was silence over the phone.

“Gallop? Are you still there?” quizzed Miles “Are you in?”

Another moment of silence before a soft reply from Gallop “That sounds intimidating, having not run that distance for more than 6 years…. Tell you what, I’ll give you a call once I’ve thought it through…..”

So the call ended without an agreement among the three pals.

Miles spent the rest of the day looking through the training programs from the Hal Higdon website and planning which to follow and when to execute them.

The ever supporting Wade, with his Nike “Just Do It” attitude, has already “Jumped” in.

Gallop, the most conservative of the three, needed to think it through.

As Miles lay on his bed at the end of the day, tossing and turning, thinking if he had made the right decision.

Most of the time, he draws strength from the support of his two buddies. At this juncture, only Wade is in on the plan. Doubts started to manifest…

“Is the plan too far-fetched?”

“Will we have the will to carry it through?”

“What if we get injured doing too much too soon?”

Gallop has always been the wiser of the three, and have on multiple occasions, saved both Miles and Wade from making rash decisions. Without his agreement, there will always be some nagging doubts in Miles.

Before long, his eyelids drew heavy as he started dreaming of crossing the finishing line at the Marathon race…….. only to be interrupted by

“RING! RING! RING!”

Miles quickly reached for his phone, and before he could speak, a confident and commanding voice echoed from the other end.

“I’m in!”

A huge grin appeared on Mile’s face…. The fellowship of the Ring is formed.

Next….. what’s the plan?

Fun Fact: The three most common surname in Singapore are respectively TAN (陈) @9.5%, LIM (林) @6.6%, and LEE (李) @4.5%. These chinese surnames reflect the dominant Hokkien, Teochew, and Cantonese dialect groups.

As can be seen, our three protagonists are Miles TAN, Wade LIM and Gallop LEE representing the top three most common surnames. In addition, their English names are also related to running/walking.
